Our first week in Reception
In our first few weeks in Reception, the children have been busy exploring and learning in so many exciting ways. In provision, we have enjoyed role play in our very own doctor’s surgery, measuring how tall we are, listening to heartbeats, and giving advice while dressed up in white coats. We’ve been busy building, creating, and painting wonderful self-portraits, as well as practising writing our names. The dolls’ house has been a popular space for imaginative play and storytelling too.
In maths, we have focused on matching and sorting, developing early number and reasoning skills through hands-on activities. Our books this half term have included Super Duper You and a non-fiction text, My Body Book. Inspired by these, we have labelled body parts and created our own “All About Me” pages to celebrate what makes each of us unique.
It’s been a brilliant start to the year, full of curiosity, creativity, and confidence!
Spring Half Term
This half term in reception we are learning all about the Lunar New Year and how it is celebrated across the world. We have discovered which year we were born in, the characteristics of those animals and where they came in the great race. We are going to extend our science knowledge and find out more about animals and where they live, what they eat and how they are cared for in a zoo! In maths we have been exploring numbers to 8, doubling number and learning all about odd and even. We will be measuring length and height next and learning to compare them.
